Homophobic attack on us in Arakapas Village last night… Neigbours and some villagers have never liked Gay people in “their” village and lots of them with alchohol = me and Kai getting beaten up. We have allways said gay bashing was a thing of the past …How wrong we were thinking we were safe in Cyprus.

Visited our great friends Jan and Paul yesterday for a delayed X mas Din Dins . Traditional and well full plates Kai even had two helpings! Fab company and a good time had by all with all the trimmings including Christmas hats. Pudding was Xmas Pud but the suprise addition was a Toblerone based Cake which was to die for! All followed by a lovely cheese board including my new fave “Knuckleduster”. Bought from a farmers market in Lincolnshire.

Went to drown myself yesterday with G & T ‘s and snapped this little critter hising behind the iron and coffe tin . Got home late and arrived to check out the outside light which has only taken two years to put up! I would take a pic of the light but reckon its not so interesting as a hidden “I cant be seen here ” Kitten… ?

Im Back

Our friends Jan and Paul left sunny Cyprus last week after a quick hol. We allways do BBQ’s and Jan allways makes super puds! Here is a pic of Jan’s Pecan Pie which did not last long .This BBQ day was a double celebration as Biscuit who had a stroke a few weeks ago is now back to full health and is now off the meds so happy days are here again.

Dumper Truck

Got another new toy going of late…a Thwaites Dumper truck to go with our new renovated Hitachi digger truck This dumper needed a new clutch and a tyre, a change of deisel, plus a new battery of course, but now i have one backward and two forward gears and a lovely piece of lounge carpet for a seat cover…of course as soon as i got this dumper truck going the digger decided to pack up and squirt hydraulic oil everywhere so now its back to Blighty for some new oil seals before my work begins once more and hopefully the temperature will come down as its a tad warm of late

My latest project is getting this digger up and running and me and Agris who has become my new best friend from the former USSR and having knowledge from the Russian army and its tanks and therefore replacing tracks on diggers Anyway its finally up and running with new tracks oil filter etc etc now i only have to learn how to dig!

Where is Bradley?

Now here is Charlie who is Bradleys new best friend. We are looking after our friends Margaret’s animals whilst she is away and Charlie is definitely getting the run around! Feeding six dogs is a challenge though, keeping them apart during feeding time is the key. So as two of the dogs are in their late years we are doing two walks a day so perhaps ill loose a few kilos too!

Episkopi Army Base Cyprus

Visited the Western Sovereign Base Area , Happy Valley, Episkopi over the weekend for “Party in the Park 2012” with our friends Jan, Paul and Sean, now called Stuart by Kai for some reason? Anyway we arrived, set up camp saw loads of Union Jacks and St George type stuff, toasted the Queen and the Queen tribute band. Ate, drank and sang for Britain and the Queen of course. Saturday saw us move on to a first attempt at home made chicken Tandouri on my new BBQ with autorotating sticks leaving more time for more Keo of course, so a good weekend has been had by all and summer is definitely here

Was invited to our friend’s house in Kalo Chorio yesterday to eat half a cow Here is the proof! The steaks followed on from the first course of chicken kebabs; Lincolnshire sausages, baked potatoes and a wealth of salads breads and sauces. Lastly polished off with home made Lemon Meringue ( Marcus Favourite ) strawberries and cream and a chocy wocky home made flan. So now I’m feeling a bit on the large side

Pushkin is the only cat we have that has not had the “Opp” so she decided to have 4 kittens including this one who i think i will name: “Fearless”. Pushkin is untouchable and a completely wild Cypriot animalbut we hope the kittens will not follow suit …so if anyone wants a kitten we are taking bookings now for kitty viewings .. she has had two black and white onesa nd two completey dark ginger and i will get them on camera when Fearless leads then out Did i also add to any prospective property buyer that if you buy a Cyprus Property you get a kitten free

Truffa From Spain

This is Truffa my sister Micaela’s and Hubby Alex new arrival. I think he has a troublesome look about him and she reports that just like Cyprus the animals get a hard time especially the horses and the donkeys which are well documented in UK with a few Charities to help them. Luckily even though we are in the med too we don’t have so many horse problems and animal cruelty cases and likewise we don’t have any Bull rings which is a blessing too. Anyway Truffa looks and is healthy and has fitted into the family unit well in Jimena De la Frontera Spain and Micaela says its hard to get her out of the local river.

Pet Lion

Yes we as a family had a pet lion and his name was Ali. Long time ago now for me as i was a child living in Somalia Mogadishu, but dad sent me this the other day picturing Ali and mum, he was given to us by a local Bedouin guy as he was rejected by his mum and had one eye. As he got too big he went to the local zoo and we visited often. Other animals we grew up with were baboons on the house walls which also contained mongoose which ate the snakes, chickens and a few dogs one of which was a Rhodesian ridgeback called “Simba” which as those who know the story Lion King means Lion in Swahili. It was in Somalia i learnt meerschaum carving and basket weaving! Happy days but don’t ask me now to make you a straw basket

Guess who re visited us yesterday? Mr Ron McGerity and we snapped him with Kai outside our property shop down town Limassol Cyprus. Just in case no one believes us. He had just come down from Troodos and reported two meters of snow and i can only admire or think perhaps a tad eccentric picturing Ron in his black nylons and an odd looking bike venturing into two meters of snow! Do take a look at his website where you can appreciate fully just what this guy has achieved with so many treks adventures picture opportunities. Personally when i drive around Cyprus and see the driving standard There is no way i would even venture out of my front door on a bike. Likewise some mention has to go to the “nutters” i see likewise daily at this time of year on their racing bikes training in teams or individually. Lycra everywhere

Biker on the Road in Cyprus

Had a very interesting meet by chance by Ron McGerity who really is an extraordinary fellow. He is currently Cycling around Cyprus and has been Cycling for charity for the last 16 years covering over 52 countries, and three continents! Outstanding! He met Kai outside our property shop and took a trip back to Arakapas village for a cup of tea and a chat. Kai gave him and his Bike a lift up the mountain. What Ron did not count on was, upon arrival, being bitten by our smallest dog namely Biscuit on what is probably one of his most important parts …his calf muscle. Biscuit drew blood! So a period of red faces and embarrassment followed by some plasters and antiseptic. I have to say after reading his website www.bikerontheroad.com and chatting for that evening i don’t think i will ever meet anyone else like Ron McGerity who is dedicated to the core and a great character all round. I will definitely not forget yesterday evening and apologies from Biscuit.

Which comes well after St Valentine who was around in Claudius II the Roman Emperor time .Year 270 ish. The card industry makes the most of St Valentine i reckon and did you know that St Valentine is also the Patron saint of Beekeepers!
